Buyer, Pence, Others Getting After Dems On Oil Drilling

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Indiana’s Republican congressional delegation is calling on their Democratic colleagues to open up currently restricted lands to oil exploration.

Congressmen Steve Buyer, Dan Burton and Mike Pence sent out a combined release yesterday saying they are frustrated with Democratic House Speaker and San Francisco Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, and her leadership's unwillingness to open up more coastal lands to oil exploration and drilling.

The group complains that the people at Monaco Coach are losing their jobs, in part, due to stratospheric gas prices, and digs out an old political tack to strike the democrats on the issue, saying the Democratic controlled House is, "out of touch" on the issue.

This comes just 4 days after the drill responsibly in leased lands act, a bill introduced by West Virginia Democrat Nick Rahall, failed to reach the required 2/3 vote Thursday.

The bill would have required oil companies to drill on the 40 million acres they already have and aren't using, or risk losing those leases, and the Hoosier delegation voted strictly along party lines.
