Three Hoosier Superdelegates Remain Uncommitted

(UNDATED) - Three of Indiana’s 13 democratic superdelegates remain uncommitted in the presidential race, and two of them haven’t offered even a hint how they’re leaning.

Second District Congressman Joe Donnelly won't endorse Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton until after Tuesday's primary. He says he doesn't want to influence his constituents' choice.

Eighth District Congressman Brad Ellsworth has said his constituents will influence him, saying he expects to support whichever candidate wins his district. Donnelly says the second district vote will be just one of several factors affecting his decision.

First District Congressman Pete Visclosky is also uncommitted.

The remaining Democrats in Indiana's House delegation, Andre Carson and Baron Hill, are backing Obama, while Sen. Evan Bayh has been perhaps Clinton's most visible Indiana supporter.

Obama has a total of five Indiana superdelegates to Clinton's four, following last week's defection of former state and national chairman Joe Andrew to Obama's camp.

Andrew says the party has to unite behind a candidate before the drawn-out battle leaves the eventual nominee too wounded to win. Donnelly disagrees. He suggests those who want to end the race now are mainly from states that have already voted.
