(BLOOMINGTON) - Several races were contested in Monroe County, especially several judge seats on the Monroe Circuit Court.
For the Democrats, Seat 6 was taken by Valeri Haughton in a 4-way race, defeating Holly Harvey, Alphonso "Al" Manns and Fred Turner. And Seat 9 on the Circuit Court was won by Elizabeth Ann Cure over challengers D.L. Poer and Roy James Graham.
Several county administrative offices saw contested primaries as well. For Monroe County Auditor on the Democratic ticket, Amy Gerstman defeated Sandy Newmann. Cathy Smith took the Democratic primary for Monroe County Treasurer over Regina Malloy.
For Monroe County Coroner, both parties had a contested primary. For the Democrats, Jerry Reed defeated Hillard J. Trubitt, and on the Republican side, Jeff Ellington defeated Walt Hatfield. Reed and Ellington will square off in the November generals.
For the Monroe County Commission, the District 2 Democratic race saw Mark Stoops over Steve Sharp. In District 3 for the Democrats, Iris Kiesling won over Sophia Travis.
For the Monroe County Council at Large, there were winners and losers in the Vote 3 race on both tickets. For the Democrats, Warren Henegar, Geoff McKin and Julie Thomas defeated Marcus Moir and Will Murphy. For the Republicans your winners were Andy Dodds, Jeff Huston and Joyce Poling, leaving out Bill Eggleston and Don Francis.
