(UNDATED) - A prominent Indiana Democrat is switching his support in the hotly-contested race for the party’s presidential nomination.

Former Democratic National Committee Chair Joe Andrew says he is endorsing Senator Barack Obama. Andrew had been a superdelegate for Senator Hillary Clinton.

He says he's switching sides because the ongoing battle is damaging the party. Andrew says, ``a vote for Hillary Clinton is a vote to continue this process.''

He also has written a lengthy letter to other superdelegates explaining his decision.

Andrew was democratic national committee chairman from 1999 to 2001 and was appointed by Bill Clinton.
