Annenberg Center Says Gas Tax Holiday Is Effectively Bunk

(UNDATED) - A major fact-checking organization says claims made by Senators John McCain and Hillary Clinton, especially here in Indiana, about the possible effects of a gas tax holiday are all for naught.
Factcheck.org, a service of the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania, calls the plan the "Gas price [fix] that won't."
Researchers at the organization say McCain's plan would merely give federal funds to oil refineries, and that Clinton's plan wouldn't do much of anything.
The plans revolve around eliminating the $0.18 federal gas tax between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials say the holiday would amount to about $28 per vehicle, and that's assuming drivers get to save that full 18.4 cents.
Senator Clinton most notably rolled out her plan at a rally at the IU Assembly Hall in Bloomington.
The article says nothing about Illinois Senator Barack Obama's plans.
