(UNDATED) - Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jill Long Thompson is proposing a sales tax cap for gasoline.

She wants to eliminate the state sales tax whenever the price spikes past $2.75 a gallon to help low and middle income Hoosiers.

But she also says if elected she would declare and energy emergency and temporarily eliminate the sales tax on gasoline.

Former Governor O'Bannon did that in June 2000.

Long Thompson says Indiana is one of only seven states that apply sales tax to gasoline.
