Daniels To Continue Health Care Push If Re-Elected
(CARMEL) - Improving Hoosiers’ health and health coverage would remain a top priority in a second Mitch Daniels administration.
The governor says he's proud of his "Healthy Indiana" Plan, which took effect in January after passing last year's legislature with bipartisan support.
That plan raised cigarette taxes to pay for state-sponsored health coverage for the uninsured.
Daniels also points to his "In Shape Indiana" campaign, which has tried to preach the importance of exercise and sensible eating habits.
One of Daniels' Democratic rivals, Jim Schellinger, rolled out his own health-care plan Tuesday, calling for state subsidies for small businesses to offer health coverage.
Daniels says he hasn't seen the plan, but says "all good ideas are welcome."
