(INDIANAPOLIS) - 7th Congressional District candidate Carolene Mays is listing health care reform as one of her top legislative priorities.

The Democratic state representative hosted a "Health Care Kick-Off" Wednesday inside the Minority Health Coalition Office in Indianapolis, saying every Hoosier deserves affordable medical treatment. She advocates opening federally qualified health centers and allowing small businesses to pool health insurance policies to lower the overall cost.

Mays says she has experience pushing for reform, recently authoring a bill that advocates researching brain and spinal cord injuries. Governor daniels signed the plan into law last month.

Mays was first elected to the Indiana General Assembly in 2002. She is also president and publisher of the Indianapolis Recorder Newspaper and the Indiana Minority Business Magazine.

Mays is running against Woody Myers, David Orientlicher and Andre Carson in the Democratic primary.
