(ZIONSVILLE) - Indiana 4th District Democratic congressional contender Nels Ackerson is claiming a lead in fundraising efforts over incumbent Republican Congressman Steve Buyer.

In the 4th District, which includes Lawrence County, Ackerson reports having raised more than $305,000 to Buyer's over $297,000. However, Ackerson's claim takes a different angle when he claims Buyer has only raised $40,000 from individual donors whereas Ackerson claims $270,000 of his from the same.

This could make a difference in a race that most political watchers claim is not competitive. Most national media sources are merely watching the races in Districts 7, Indianapolis, and 9, Southeastern Indiana.

However, Ackerson's numbers are slightly off. The Federal Election Commission shows Ackerson with $308, 602 and Buyer with $301,129, though that still tells the same story. However, Buyer remains in the lead in cash-on-hand, leading Ackerson $493,373 to $149,899, though more than $211,000 of that advantage comes from additional money Buyer had remaining on hand from previous campaign efforts.

On one point, though, Ackerson is pretty correct, though the numbers are slightly off. Ackerson shows more than $273,004 in individual contributions in FEC reports, $20,000 in personal financing and $13,970 in committee donations, mostly coming from party and labor sources.

Buyer's FEC reports show $55,927 in individual contributions and $237,500 in committee donations, mostly coming from pharmaceutical and medical organizations as well as a few from energy, communications, and other "corporate" sources.
