(ANDERSON) - Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is vowing to give organized labor an ally in the oval office, in a campaign swing through Indiana.
Clinton played talk-show host for part of her appearance in Anderson, bringing two former workers from now-closed Guide Corporation on stage to talk about the economic straits they're now in.
She heard from one UAW veteran who told her he'd never vote for a Republican, but wanted reassurance on her opposition to NAFTA, a treaty her husband signed. Clinton says she'll renegotiate NAFTA and all other American trade deals to better protect American jobs.
Indiana senator and Clinton backer Evan Bayh stood behind the candidate throughout her appearance, prompting one audience question about Bayh as a running mate. Clinton says it's premature to discuss that...but added, "I have a real high opinion of him."
Thousands of folks came from all parts of the state to catch Senator Clinton's speech at the wigwam in Anderson.
Some in attendance got emotional during the speech, as the senator talked about the need to keep jobs in the U.S. and to create more jobs.
North-Central Indiana has seen a decline in the number of manufacturing jobs. There was a large union presence on-hand.
After the speech, people said they loved hearing from the former first lady about her plans for change.
Clinton touched on everything from ending the war in Iraq to helping combat student loan debt. One woman told a heartwrenching story of losing her daughter because she didn't have adequate health care.
