Andre Carson Claims Late Grandmother's Congressional Seat
(INDIANAPOLIS) - Andre Carson is going to finish out his grandmother’s term in congress following a victory Tuesday night in a special congressional election.
Carson says he wants to go to Washington D.C. and continue what the late Julia Carson began. Andre Carson says he wants to focus on bettering health care and making it more affordable. Carson says he also wants to fight for more jobs for Indiana.
Andre Carson says he feels like his grandmother was watching over him Tuesday night. Congresswoman Julia Carson passed away this past winter.
Julia Carson's mentor, former Congressman Andy Jacobs, joked, saying Julia "had a sex change."
Carson will face a handful of challengers in the May primary for the next two-year term for the seventh district.
