Report: Indy Schools Grad Rate Second Lowest Among Big Cities
(INDIANAPOLIS) - A new study says Indianapolis has the second lowest graduation rate of the nation’s 50 largest cities.
Only Detroit had a lower rate than Indianapolis. The America's Promise Alliance study says only 30.5 percent of Indianapolis high school students graduate. State officials disagree with the figures.
State School Superintendent Suellen Reed says the numbers count students who moved away, died, or couldn't complete school in four years.
She assures districts are being proactive, but admits the problem can't be fixed over night. She says it will take the entire community to fix the problem.
