Hoosier Schools Trending Downward

(UNDATED) - More Indiana schools dropped to lower ratings under Indiana’s school accountability plan than those reporting improvement last year.
The plan is called Public Law 221, and is part of the federal No Child Left Behind law. According to information released by the Indiana Department of Education, 23%, or 429 schools, fell into a lower category than in 2006.
Just 21% of schools saw improvement, and 55% saw no change. The state Department of Education board voted to accept the report, but not without comment.
State Schools Superintendent Dr. Suellen Reed insists there is a plan, but some on the board have forgotten it.
Schools which fail to meet P.L. 221 standards four consecutive years face dire penalties, including closure.
