(KOKOMO) - The Johanning Civic Center in Kokomo this week hosts Indiana’s second annual National Archery in the Schools program.

Last year's inaugural event, included participation by 180 students, representing eight school corporations. This year, there are nearly 500 students, representing 23 school corporations.

Indiana's NASP Director Tim Beck says the growth is an indication of how strong this program will become, in future years.

Along with local funding from the individual school corporations, Beck says the annual archery meet is sponsored by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, the Indiana Hunter Education Association, individual donations and through organizations such as the National Wild Turkey Federation.

The state competition begins Friday, at 7:00am, in Kokomo.
