IUPUI Wants To Put The Pedal To The Metal
(INDIANAPOLIS) - Race fans can turn their favorite past-time into a career with a proposed degree program at IUPUI.
Engineering and technology professor Pete Hylton is director of the motorsports program. He says the Purdue board of trustees approved a bachelor's degree in motorsports engineering.
If the Indiana Commission For Higher Education approves, IUPUI would join the University of North Carolina-Charlotte as the only two American colleges offering such a degree.
Hylton hopes to start offering the bachelor's degree this fall. IUPUI began a certificate program in fall, 2006.
Hylton says eight new courses are being created, including data acquisition and the business of motorsports. He says students from California, Texas and Florida have visited campus or expressed interest in the program.
