IU Study: Images Of Candidates In News Have Impact

Last updated on Friday, February 29, 2008

(BLOOMINGTON) - An Indiana University Bloomington study finds that those images of presidential candidates you see on the news may have more of an impact on your perception of the candidate than you think.

IU professors Erik Bucy and Betsi Grabe published a study showing that presidential candidates have been shown in more stories, but their verbal statements or sound bytes have actually decreased in length.

The study, which examined the last 4 elections, says instead of sound bytes, reporters and correspondents are inserting more of their own analysis and opinion on top of those images of the candidates.
