(STATEHOUSE) - The IU School of Continuing Studies is at the Statehouse reminding lawmakers the school is stemming the state’s brain drain without the help of state funding.

The IU school is primarily for non-traditional, returning adult students whose interests range from completing their high school education to getting a masters degree.

John Beeson, the executive director of the school, says they don't receive state funds. Beeson says the school operates in a competitive, business-like environment where the courses have to draw enough interest from people to pay for themselves.

The school exists at all of IU's statewide campuses and has a growing presence online with worldwide competition for students.

John Beeson says it's the consumer who ultimately benefits from the huge choice of high quality, low cost educational courses.
