(UNDATED) - An upgrade to high school girls gymnastics programs will take effect next year.

The National Federation of State High School Associations rules committee adopted 52 changes to the rule book. Committee Chair Becky Oakes says the changes are in line with current trends and terminology of the sport and will help gymnasts and coaches better execute the requirements and help streamline judges' evaluations.

Girls gymnastics at the high school level effects a small population of schools nationwide, however Indiana is in the top ten for largest programs. The top three states are Minnesota, New York, and Ohio.

Indiana currently has approximately 80 schools with girls gymnastics programs catering to over 900 participants.

The National Federal of State High School Associations is based in Indianapolis.
