IPS "AVID" Program Gets Healthy Donation From Sallie Mae

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indianapolis Public Schools “AVID” academic enrichment program is now a bit richer with a $100,000 donation from the Sallie Mae Fund.
"AVID" was created in 1980, but IPS Superintendent Eugene White says it's a recent addition here.
"AVID" stands for "Advancement Via Individual Determination". It targets students in grades 5 through 12 who will be the first in their family to attend college.
The Sallie Mae Fund donation will be used primarily to train teachers and recruit tutors for the program over the next two years.
