Retirement Of Principal And Secretary Concerns Parents

(FORT WAYNE) - Elmhurst School parents were expected to receive a phone call Friday with an automated message reassuring them that the retirement of the principal and resignation of her secretary won’t affect their children’s educations.
Secretary Rachel Kearnes resigned Monday amid allegations she had sexual relationships with former or current students. Fort Wayne Community Schools officials suspended her without pay Oct. 12 pending their own investigation, but Kearnes tendered her resignation before the inquiry was finished.
On Wednesday, Principal Barb Gentry submitted a letter of intent to retire Nov. 30. She had asked for medical leave oct. 15, three days after Kearnes was suspended.
School officials won't say whether the two departures are connected.
