(INDIANAPOLIS) - Teach For America is coming to the Indianapolis Public Schools.

The organization is made up of top college graduates that commit two years to teach in some of the poorest performing urban schools through out the country. Upwards of 50 students will come to Indianapolis in the fall of 2008.

Teach For America came to the city through the efforts of The Mind Trust, a non profit group that supports education by partnering with local business and talent to further education in Indianapolis. Some 2 million dollars was provided for the project with the help of the Lilly Endowment and The United Way of Central Indiana.

IPS Supt. Dr. Eugene White welcomes the program and says it will help the school system in achieving its goal to become one of the best school systems in the country by 2010 with the quality instruction being offered.
