(BLOOMINGTON) - You have 1 new message…from Indiana University!

IU has said they are implementing a system wide communication system called IU Notify, to be able to contact students, faculty and staff on all 8 IU campuses within minutes.

The ConnectED system will be the backbone of the IU Notify project, and will be implemented on a limited-ability test basis in October, with a fully functional rollout expected by the end of the calendar year.

The system works by delivering rapid information to home, work and cell voicemail; sending text messages to cells and personal digital assistants; sending e-mail and messages to TTY and TDD phones for the hearing impaired.

The idea is based on being able to transmit information in important and emergency situations where time is of the essence.
