Indiana Children Help Break Guinness Book World Record

(UNDATED) - Indiana children Thursday helped shatter the largest shared reading record for the Guinness Book of World Records.
Superintendent of Public Instruction Suellen Reed read the story of Ferdinand, by Munro Leaf, to small children gathered at the Indianapolis Children's Museum.
Reed joins an estimated 200,000 children and adults across the U.S. reading the story to break the world record set last year by an inaugural campaign. The initial effort involved more than 150,000 people and raised more than $500,000.
Reed says it is important for children to be read to before they reach the age to read. "Kids who learn to read before they come to school are going to do a lot better as they go on through school," Reed said.
The jumpstart "Read For The Record" campaign is part of a national effort to raise money for early education in low-income communities.
