(UNDATED) - Indiana’s SAT scores skidded six points from last year, but the state still gained ground on the national average for a fourth straight year.

Indiana posted an average combined score of 1487, losing a point in reading, two in math and three in writing.

It's the second year in a row Indiana scores have fallen after six straight improvements. The state is 24 points below the national average, but actually moved one point closer as the national average dropped seven points.

Three Gary high schools had the worst scores of any non-alternative school, with Lew Wallace posting the worst score at 1121. West Lafayette High School had the best public school average at 1750, followed by Carmel at 1647 and Zionsville at 1642. Indianapolis Key Learning Community, an alternative school with only 12 students taking the test, had the state's rock-bottom average at 1101.

Among IPS's mainstream high schools, Arlington had the worst score outside Gary at 1183. Tech posted a 1559 average; Broad Ripple, 1360; Manual, 1330; and Northwest, 1243.
