Purdue Throws Party After Reaching Fund-Raising Goal

Last updated on Monday, July 23, 2007

(WEST LAFAYETTE) - Purdue University officials threw a half million dollar party for donors to celebrate the end of one-point-seven billion dollar, seven year fund-raising campaign.

About half the bill for the June 20th party came from funds raised in the campaign, with the rest coming from the Purdue Research Foundation. The university hired an event planning company and professional singers for the party held at the Mollenkopf Athletic Center on campus.

Some Purdue students say the party was a waste of money that could have gone toward improvements on campus. A university spokesman says the party had to be upscale to thank donors, many of whom donated more than one million dollars to the school.
