(WEST LAFAYETTE) - A refrigerant leak led to an evacuation of the Birck Nanotechnology Center on the Purdue campus this morning.

The Purdue fire department went to the building to respond to an automatic alarm. One of the responders started having a reaction to the "sweet smelling" odor, firefighters left the building.

That fire fighter was taken to St. Elizabeth medical center, where he was treated and released.

The facility was slated to re-open in the middle of the afternoon.

Purdue maintenance workers went into the building to plug and fix the leak.
