(JASPER) - The state of Indiana is now offering a haphazard funding plan for local schools, which opt to offer students a full-day kindergarten program.
Last year, the Southeast Dubois County School Corporation offered a full-day enrichment program. Parents were asked to contribute as much as 40-dollars a week to help cover the expense.
This fall, the school system will again offer a full-day program. Southeast Dubois School Superintendent Bob Johnson says that the kindergarten program this fall will offer more substance. But with only limited state resources, parents will again be asked to offer their financial support.
The Indiana Department of Education released preliminary grant estimates--announcing that school corporations around the state will qualify for a total of 665 dollars in state funding for each kindergarten student.
Johnson says the contribution might be increased, if some school corporations opt-out of the program, due to financial reasons.
The state has pledged 33. 5-million in grants for full-day kindergarten. Next year, the grant total, increases to 58.5-million.
