(ANDERSON) - Two parents have filed a suit against Anderson Community Schools and the board of trustees alleging that the new school uniform policy denies students their constitutional rights.

The suit alleges that requiring parents to buy two sets of clothing for every day of the school year rubs against free education guaranteed by the U.S. and Indiana constitutions.

The suit also makes note that the uniform policy goes against the 14th Amendment, which recognizes fundamental rights.

The school system's attorney, Charles R. Rubright said that this case has the potential to be precedent-setting. Rubright said that many courts recently have ruled in favor of uniform policies, and if this case is won, it could have statewide and national implications.
