(WEST LAFAYETTE) - A Purdue University research and extension education effort will use an $11.4-million grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to teach farmers in West and Central Africa how to better protect their cash crop.

The effort will focus on improving the farming of cowpeas in 10 African nations.

Purdue will work to train technicians who will travel from village to village to educate farmers on proper cowpea storage.
