(VALPARAISO) - Engineering students at Valparaiso University have built a vehicle to compete in a supermileage competition next month.

The teardrop-shaped vehicle will be participating in the society of automotive engineers supermileage competition in Michigan.

The university designed a vehicle that recorded 491 miles per gallon in 2006.

Team officials say this year's vehicle is expected to double that amount.
