(INDIANAPOLIS) - There is a new plan to get more Indianapolis high schoolers to college.

Unveiling the pilot program at manual high school Monday, city and school leaders say the "College Summit" is the right way to go to not only get more Indy kids to college, but address the city's staggering drop out rate as well.

J.B. Schramm is the founder of College Summit and says this program has found much success in cities like Denver and St. Louis, showing "dramatic" increases in the number of college bound kids. Schramm says the program will begin with a 4 day summer workshop in late June at the University of Indianapolis for incoming seniors from Manual.

Schramm says the program helps kids navigate through the college application process so they can teach their peers. Schramm says the biggest advocate to get kids to college is other kids. Schramm also says this is about getting kids who have outstanding grades but not much money to college, leveling the playing field against kids with lower grades and higher income families.

The non profit "mind trust" is providing a $100,000 grant to help jump start the program.
