Concrete Canoe Contest At Purdue
(WEST LAFAYETTE) - It’s sink or swim for about 500 civil engineering students gearing up for a concrete canoeing contest near the Purdue University campus in West Lafayette.
Teams from 14 colleges and universities throughout the Midwest will race against each other in canoes that can hold between three to four people. The unusual competition will take place today on Hadley Lake.
The Purdue chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers is sponsoring the regional event. ASCE spokesperson Kevin Mueller says most people are surprised to learn that even concrete can be designed to float.
