(INDIANAPOLIS) - The fifth class to graduate from a pre-apprenticeship program established by Governor Daniels has received its diplomas.

34 people received certificates from the "Major Opportunities" program, which seeks to provide an influx of Latino and African American workers to construction companies.

Rudy Hightower is the president of Second Chance, an organization which helps sponsor the classes. He says graduates have been in discussions with masonry, carpentry and other building trades companies which may offer them positions which may build into full-fledged apprenticeships.

Second Chance works with associated builders and contractors to encourage people to enroll in the classes, which take about three weeks to complete.
