RIAA Cracking Down On Indiana Campus Downloads

Last updated on Thursday, March 1, 2007

(UNDATED) - students at Indiana Universities who illegally download music could soon be receiving a disturbing piece of mail.

The Recording Industry Association of America has begun sending hundreds of letters to college campuses threatening legal action against students who do not stop their illegal file sharing and agree to pay licensing fees for the music they've downloaded for free.

RIAA spokeswoman Jenni Engebretsen says her organization has been monitoring file sharing activity and identifying the nation's worst offenders, who she says are often aided by powerful computer networks on college campuses. Engebretsen says letters have not yet been sent to any Indiana schools, but wouldn't rule out the possibility in the future.
