(BLOOMINGTON) - Michael McRobbie is drawing positive reviews following the announcement of his appointment as Indiana University’s 18th president.
Bloomington State Representative Peggy Welch says McRobbie has always struck her as charming and says she suspects people will want to work with the former interim provost as he moves up in rank.
Students interviewed on the Bloomington campus say they don't know much about the Australian, who came to IU in 1997 because of his expertise in information technology. Still, at least one woman conceded his looks are that of a president. Other students are thanking outgoing President Adam Herbert for the job he's done to expand the school's commitment to diversity.
There is dissent, as well. Bloomington faculty council member Herb Terry says he'd have liked a more transparent search for Herbert's successor. In the end, Terry says he hopes the school has picked a leader who will be accountable for both the successes and failures of coming years.
