(UNDATED) - Indiana joins 18 other states in offering a virtual charter school.
In just a week, 12,000 families in the state have expressed interest in the program. Chair of the Indiana Virtual Charter School (INVSC) Board of Trustees, Ron Brumbarger says those families will soon have a cutting-edge new public education choice, where students access their daily lessons via the internet.
INVSC provides a computer, internet access, textbooks and other materials to students, free of charge, with a statewide network of certified teachers available to support the online program.
Students learn at different rates. Brumbarger says this program allows those students to learn at there own pace. He says some students learn more quickly than others in a typical classroom, others more slowly.
INVSC hopes to have 1,500 students registered by this fall, 2,200 for the following school year. Because thousands of families have expressed interest, Brumbarger says a lottery will be held for enrollment.
