(BEDFORD) - The North Lawrence Community Schools Board of Trustees met for the first time this year and Lawrence County Clerk Julie Blackwell-Chase-Brinegar offered the oath of office.
Scott Gillespie became the new president with Brad Flinn as vice-president and Wendell Nikirk secretary. It was noted that Nikirk is starting his 21st year as board member of the North Lawrence Community Schools.
During the board meeting it was learned that Business Services Director Nancy Lumley will be resigning. She will be heading to the Seymour School District to assume duties there. While a new director is being sought, the Educational Services out of Indianapolis will provide Timothy Armstrong to fill in.
Maintenance Director Steve Ritter told the board two new exhaust fans are needed at the BNL swimming pool. Using the emergency funds both fans will be installed at a cost of nearly $15,000. Also, new elevators for the Parkview schools will be sought.
Dr. Dennis Turner updated the board on the Joint Services agreement. After meeting with the superintendents of five counties affected by the service and Joint Services Director Janie Jones, it was decided to phase out the mentally disabled student out of the local service. Those with severe disabilities would get special attention, though. The phase out will take two years.
