(WEST LAFAYETTE) - Purdue president Martin Jischke has decided not to join a program dealing with sweatshop conditions at University Apparel Makers.
A group of students has been on a hunger strike in an effort to persuade Purdue to sign the designated supplier program.
But Jischke says the program does not ensure Purdue licensed apparel would be made in compliance with a university code of conduct.
He has accepted an invitation for Purdue to place an observer on the DSP working group.
