(UNDATED) - Saturday was graduation day for thousands of students receiving advanced degrees in commencement ceremonies across the state.

Nearly 2,000 students graduated from the Indiana University-Bloomington campus, compared with over 7,000 during spring commencement in May. Some students graduate mid-school year because they have a minor, which may add a semester.

Indiana State University honored two "nontraditional" students during its ceremony. These two grads achieved a 4.0 grade-point average.

Forty-eight-year-old Carol Ann Geiger Roberts quit her job as a high school cafeteria manager to go back to school. Forty-six-year-old Kathy Sykes is the mother of three grown children and majored in special and elementary education.
