Education Expert Warns Of Teacher Shortage

(BLOOMINGTON) - An Indiana University education official says the state could face serious problems if it does not replenish its aging education workforce with young, qualified replacements.
Terry Spradlin works for I.U.'s Center for Evaluation and Education Policy and says the average age of a teacher in Indiana is now 43.
That, he says, means more teachers are heading toward retirement age.
Add in requirements set up by the federal "No Child Left Behind" act saying teachers must be highly qualified in their fields to teach and the state faces a long-term problem.
