Purdue Students Hold Hunger Strike
(WEST LAFAYETTE) - A group of Purdue students is on a hunger strike to protest the use of sweatshop workers to make university apparel.
About a dozen members of the "Purdue Organization for Labor Equity" intend to go without food until President Martin Jischke adopts the "Designated Suppliers Program." Roughly 30 universities support the guidelines which promise humane conditions for workers who make their apparel.
Doctoral student Nathan Jun has not eaten since November 17th and plans to continue for as long as necessary, even over the university's winter break.
