Reduced Free Lunches

(STATEHOUSE) - State School Superintendent Suellen Reed says there could be a slight drop in the number of Hoosier students receiving free or reduced lunches.
More than 400-thousand students qualified for the lunch program last school year, about 37% of all Indiana pupils. The number was down slightly from the year before, and Superintendent Suellen Reed says the drop may continue.
The federal government doesn't set the criteria for the lunch program till just before the start of school. It'll take a while after that to review enrollment and calculate Indiana's participation rate. Last year, nine school systems had more students in the program than out.
