(ANDERSON) - An Anderson-based automotive company introduced its new plug-in hybrid vehicle Tuesday to government and corporate leaders in Washington, DC.

Bright Automotive named their concept vehicle the "Idea." Vice President of Marketing Lyle Shuey says it's a van-style vehicle that can go up to 30 miles on electric power alone before switching to hybrid mode.

Shuey says their customer base will initially be commercial and government fleet companies.

Bright Automotive expects to begin mass production of the vehicle in late 2012, eventually producing 50,000 units annually.

Even though the company's headquarters is in Anderson, the location of their manufacturing facility which will create 5,000 jobs has not been finalized.

Shuey says they're looking at different options in the Midwest but they're hoping it can be built as close to home as possible.

The "Idea" had a private unveiling at the Indiana State Fairgrounds earlier this month and makes its public debut next month at the electric vehicle symposium in Norway.
