(UNDATED) - State unemployment systems have crashed in Ohio, New York and North Carolina because of the unprecedented number of jobless people applying for benefits.

But Marc Lotter with the Indiana Department of Workforce Development says the state's system is in good shape. He says the department's computer infrastructure is robust after significant upgrades over the last few years. It's now operating at half capacity despite the record number of people filing claims online.

Lotter says the department's main problem right now is hiring more staff members in the regions hardest-hit by jobless claims.

Fortunately, they have a large pool of potential employees walking into their offices every day. New hires become state employees and go through a department training program before beginning work on the other side of the unemployment line.
