Hoosier Food Prices Increase Twice As Fast As Nation
(INDIANAPOLIS) - An Indiana Farm Bureau study finds food prices in Indiana are rising twice as fast as the national rate.
The farm bureau's quarterly "market basket" survey of 16 common food items finds prices rose 7.3% over the last three months. That's compared to 3.5% in a similar survey by 36 State Farm Bureaus around the country.
The Indiana Farm Bureau says Hoosiers paid about 46 dollars for cooking oil, flour, bread, chicken, eggs, milk, cereal, apples, bacon, pork chops, cheese, mayo, ground beef and sirloin tip roast.
The increases in cooking and vegetable oil, chicken, eggs, and bread were enough to account for the three-dollar increase by themselves. Other increases were offset by price drops for cheese, ground beef, sirloin roast and mayonnaise.
