Casino Revenues Down, Taxes Take Additional Plunge
(UNDATED) - Taxes paid by Indiana’s casinos are down for the first time in more than a decade.
Tax revenues from the state's 11 casinos and two new slot machine facilities at race tracks totaled $465 million dollars in the first six months of the year. That's down from nearly $489 million dollars for the same period in 2007.
Indiana Gaming Commission Executive Director Ernie Yelton says there are many issues that impact revenues in gaming including the economy.
Yelton also ties the lower figures to bad weather and competition from a new tribal casino in Michigan.
