Researchers Focus On Life Science Projects

Last updated on Monday, May 19, 2008

(UNDATED) - Indiana’s much-ballyhooed life-sciences partnership between business and university researchers isn’t just about raising research dollars. It’s about shaping the projects they pay for.

Purdue and Indiana University have technology parks aimed at turning research into marketable products. Researchers say partnering with business lets them concentrate on the science.

"If the funds are available but the projects are left in the academic laboratory, oftentimes it's not clear to me that the right questions are being asked," says Purdue bioengineer George Wodicka.

Wodicka and other researchers were part of a daylong conference at IUPUI on how to pump more venture capital into Indiana's life-sciences efforts. The state has been working for years to brand Purdue, IU and IUPUI as a Midwestern research triangle.
