(INDIANAPOLIS) - The dirt was sifted and the new JW Marriott in Downtown Indianapolis is now under construction.
City and tourism leaders hosted a groundbreaking ceremony in the parking lot of the Courtyard Marriott across from the convention center. That will house the huge Marriott complex.
The new JW Marriott will be the largest Marriott in the U.S. once it is completed in early 2011. Leaders are calling it a pivotal part of the bid for Super Bowl XLVI.
Merrillville-based White Lodging will help run the new mega-hotel. When completed, it will have more than 1,000 rooms and be able to host conventions independent of the convention center.
