(INDIANAPOLIS) - An Indianapolis company plans a fall launch of a wireless device it says can detect cavities two years sooner than dental x-rays.
Therametric Technologies will hire 50 people to bring its handheld probe to market.
The device uses fluorescent light to spot changes in tooth enamel that signal where decay is likely to set in. Those images are then sent to a computer.
Former Indiana University researcher George Stookey developed the device at Indiana University's Emerging Technology Center in Indianapolis.
