(CARMEL) - Two Indiana companies which didn’t exist three years ago will increase their workforces nearly fivefold over the next 10 years.
Carmel-based Dormir operates sleep disorder centers under the name MD Sleep and sells sleep-related medical equipment in Indianapolis, Greenwood, Noblesville, Kokomo and Fort Wayne, and in 13 other states.
This year, it plans to expand into six more states and three more Indiana cities. To accommodate the growth, Dormir is building a new, larger headquarters in Carmel, down the street from the old one, and adding 160 workers.
In Warsaw, children's orthopedics maker Orthopediatrics is adding 100 jobs, two years after opening with 26 workers. Governor Daniels, who attended both announcements, calls them indications the Hoosier economy still has "great momentum," despite recent shutdown announcements at GE's Bloomington plant and Indianapolis-based airline ATA.
Daniels acknowledges the state will feel the pinch if the national economy falls into recession, but says strong exports and agricultural markets are keeping Indiana afloat.
Indiana has lost 21,900 jobs since August, but remains 11,300 jobs ahead of where it was at this time a year ago.
